South Africa: Gauteng Head of Department Suspended

Pretoria — Gauteng Premier Nomvula Mokonyane has placed Economic Development Departmental Head, Khulu Radebe, under precautionary suspension pending a full investigation.

According to a statement issued by the Office of the Premier, Radebe has been suspended for non-performance and lack of accountability on some of the key youth development programmes.

His suspension follows the collapse of several projects on youth employment and entrepreneurship development programmes.

Mokonyane has in the past maintained that she would implement consequence management where necessary.

"We will continue to hold especially senior government officials accountable and act decisively against under or non-performance.

"We also remain committed to serve our people diligently and ensure that we deliver on the mandate given by the majority of the residence of this province," said the Premier.
