PRESIDENTIAL hopefuls were yesterday finalising their lists of endorsements ahead of today's deadline and the formal nominations on January 29.
Those seeking presidential nominations from the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission were to submit a list of at least 48,000 voters who support their bid between yesterday and today.
Article 137(d) of the constitution states; " a person qualifies to be a presidential candidate if the person is nominated by not fewer than two thousand voters from each of a majority of the counties."
Section 18(1) of the election regulations says those seeking nominations must present to IEBC a list bearing the names, signatures, ID or passport numbers and voters' numbers of their supporters.
Musalia Mudavadi, who is the Amani coalition presidential nominee, presented his list yesterday afternoon. The head of his campaign secretariat, Mundia Muchiri, said the list was ready awaiting submission.
TNA was also finalising its list. The party's director of legal affairs Jasper Mbiuki said he will submit the list of Uhuru Kenyatta's supporters at 3pm today.
Eagle Alliance's Peter Kenneth said because he will present his nomination papers on January 30, he will present his list of supporters today. RBK presidential hopeful James ole Kiyiapi said he will present the list today. "I am ready.
Tomorrow is the day for submission. We already have our list," Kiyiapi said. Prime Minister Raila Odinga's ODM was also finalising its list of supporters last evening ahead of today's presentation, according to the party's director of communication Philip Etale. Raila is the Cord Alliance presidential nominee in the March 4 polls.
