FIDA has asked the National Police Service to protect wananchi before, during and after March 4 elections. The Federation of Women Lawyers yesterday said, "it is disheartening to observe violation of voters rights to free and fair elections".

"We call upon the police to immediately launch investigations and prosecution of cases reported by women aspirants in various police stations countrywide," Fida said in a statement signed by its chair- person Ruth Aura. The federation said the way the police handle the current situation will determine whether the general election will be free and fair.
