Somalia: Officials Discuss Return of World Food Programme Operations to Guriel

Somali government and Ahlu Sunna wal Jamaa officials in Guriel in central Somalia met with representatives from the UN World Food Programme (WFP) on Wednesday (January 23rd) to discuss the resumption of humanitarian operations in the area, UN-funded Radio Bar-Kulan reported.

WFP programme adviser Yasuyuki Misawa led the UN delegation from Kenya and met with a group of local leaders.

Provincial Commissioner Ahmed Yussuf Hassan said participants agreed that the WFP should resume operations in Guriel, adding that the UN delegation pledged to support rebuilding efforts in the region, including the construction of schools and other public facilities.
