Namibia: ACC Swoops On Cop

OFFICERS of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on Wednesday arrested the Karasburg Traffic Unit commander, Alfeus Josef Ashipala (37), on a charge of corruption.

In 2007, Ashipala, who was then a driving examiner, allegedly issued a Code 11 driver's licence to Alpin Nuuyoma without him taking a practical driving test.

The ACC also arrested Nuuyoma on Monday for allegedly conspiring with the driving examiner.

Both suspects appeared in the Karasburg Magistrate Court on corruption charges this week and were released on bail of N$5 000.

Their case was postponed until February 18 for further investigation and for the arrest of a third suspect.
