Gambia: Bishop of Banjul Thanks President Jammeh

Robert P Ellison, CSSP, the Bishop of Banjul has written to President Jammeh, thanking him for the for kind gesture and Christmas gifts of Turkey to the Christian community in the Gambia.

The message reads:

I write to convey to you, on behalf of the Catholic Community in the Diocese of Banjul, our profound gratitude or your thought and kindness with your Christmas gift of turkeys once again this year.

I ask myself how many other Heads of States would even consider such a gesture towards their Christian communities in similar circumstances as we find ourselves here in The Gambia?

Please be assured that we do appreciate both your thought and also your generosity towards a minority group. It is a clear indication also of your constant commitment to promote religious tolerance and respect among our two religious traditions-Muslims and Christians.

I take this opportunity to thank you for your New Year greetings and best wishes for 2013.

Please be assured of our prayers for your Excellency, your family and your government, as we all strive to make our small contributions to building up peace, progress and prosperity in our homeland, The Gambia.

Your Excellency, please accept the assurances of my highest esteem.

Robert P. Ellison, CSSp

Bishop of Banjul
