Kenya: Ginners Accused of Not Buying Cotton On Time

COTTON ginners have ignored most parts of Siaya County due to low volumes. Nyanza and Makueni ginners have resorted to buying the product from Rarieda district, Siaya County, since December last year due to rising production volumes.

The Cotton Authority Development (CODA) Zonal Coordinator, Chrispine Amwono, said Nyanza and Makueni ginners have purchased over 107,000 kg of cotton worth Sh3.7 million since December last year.

He was speaking in Siaya town after visiting collection centres at Arram and Madiany in Rarieda district. Amwono said farmers in most parts of Siaya region had failed to form co-operative societies that would enhance production and lure ginners into purchasing the crop on time.
