Mali Islamists Bomb Bridge to Niger

Mali Islamists blew up a strategic bridge linking Gao to Niger, residents told AFP on Friday (January 25th). The attack came the day after French fighter jets bombed two Islamist bases near Gao.

More than 2,000 Chadian soldiers and 500 troops from Niger are being deployed in Ouallam, Niger, near the Mali border, to open a second front against the Islamists.

The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) will hold an emergency session Saturday in Abidjan to address the latest Mali developments.
