Tunisia/Ethiopia: Marzouki Attends Opening of 20th AU Summit in Addis Ababa

Addis Ababa — Caretaker President Moncef Marzouki attended on Sunday in Addis Ababa (Ethiopia), together with the heads of state and government of the Pan-African 54 member states' organisation, the opening of the 20th African Union Summit held under the motto "Pan-Africanism and African renaissance ".

The opening session was attended by African Union President Benin's Thomas Boni yayi, UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon, Arab League Secretary General Nabil Arabi and Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas.

The summit will discuss the armed conflict in Mali, peace and security in Africa, the UNO reforms, climate change and the development agenda for after 2015, in addition to an exchange of views over the report of the African high-level trade committee and the setting up of a continental free trade zone.

This 20th Summit coincides with the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the African Unity Organisation (May 1963) which became in 2002 the African Union.
