Nigeria: Nimet Official Wants Citizens to Observe Weather Predictions

An official of the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NIMET), Mr Ignatius Nwoko, has called on Nigerians to be mindful of weather forecasts in their daily endeavours.

Nwoko, Deputy General Manager of NIMET in the southeast, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Enugu on Friday that the lack of interest in weather forecasts had adverse effects on Nigerians' activities.

"It's very, very important. Many of us wake up and go on daily basis without caring on what is going to happen.

"But it's important to listen to changes in weather, how it's going to affect your area. Then you take precautionary measures so as to avoid being impacted negatively, especially the farmers."

Nwoko said the agency would soon announce weather predictions for 2013.
