Kenya: Guard Gets 20 Years for Attempt to Kill Boss

A security guard will spend the next 20 years behind bars for attempting to kill his boss. Boniface Ateka Ongara attempted to murder Edward Maina Nguchugu last Tuesday at Nkoiri village in Kajiado.

The court heard that Ongara was paid by Nguchugu's former wife to killer him. Ongara admitted the offence. Kibera acting chief Magistrate David Ochenja asked him if he new the implications of the case and he said he is in his right mind.

Chief Superintendent Wycliffe Sifuna said Ongara was given Sh 50,000 to kill Nguchugu. The woman who allegedly paid Ongara to kill separated with Nguchugu several months ago.

Ongara is said to have been given a down payment of Sh 10,000 and was promised the rest after killing Guchugu. The court heard that hid under his boss' bed. When Guchugu entered the bedroom, Ongara stabbed him several times before fleeing after Guchugu overpowered him.

Police say that Nguchugu is admitted at the Nairobi hospital in the Intensive Care Unit . In mitigation, Ongarasaid that he accepted to kill his boss because he needed the money. In his ruling, Ochenja said that the offense was serious since the accused wanted to take away the life of his employer.
