Kenya: It Doesn't Always Pay to Be an Independent

The chaos across the board in the all-party nominations nationwide was not an unforeseen phenomenon, given the Kenyan political process's singular failure to develop parties with structures and institutions.

Indeed, I was initially an independent candidate for inaugural governor of Bungoma, resolutely avoiding party political affiliation, until compelling circumstances dictated otherwise and I weighed and considered my options accordingly.
