Tunisia: President Marzouki Discusses With Swiss MP Ways to Speed Up Recovery of Stolen Funds

Carthage — Caretaker President Moncef Marzouki and Swiss MP Ueli Luenberger discussed, on Friday in Carthage, ways to speed up the recovery of stolen funds placed in Swiss banks.

"Difficulties in handling this issue require technical support and joint action between the Tunisian government, MPs and the civil society to put pressure on Swiss banks in an attempt to retrieve Tunisian funds stolen by the ousted President and his family," the Swiss MP was quoted as saying by a Presidency press release.

He also expressed confidence in Tunisia's ability to ensure the success of democratic transition despite the economic and social challenges which require support from all its friends.

The Swiss MP also said he was surprised at "the negative and pessimistic image of Tunisia conveyed in Europe," adding that this image "does not reflect the country's reality."
