Gambia: BCC Dissloved - Interim Management Committee Installed

The Banjul City Council (BCC) has been dissolved ahead of the forthcoming Local Government elections slated for April 4th, 2013. Meanwhile, an interim management committee has been installed in adherence to the Laws of The Gambia.

The members of the committee are Alhaji Mbye B.S.O. Chow as chairman, PaDodou Gaye, member; Aji Bintou Marong, member; Aji Fatou Sosseh, member; Alhaji Ousman Jobe, member; Muhammed Frazer, member; Aji Bintou Jaiteh, member; and Momodou Cham, member.

A media release from the Council states that the interim management committee headed by the chairman has been constituted and installed to ensure the continuous execution of policies geared towards effective and efficient service delivery.

According to the release, the committee shall serve as an oversight and caretaker entity for a period of 90 days pending the holding of the local government elections and the assumption of office by an elected mayor and ward councilors respectively.

In light of the above, the release went on, the general public and private institutions are encouraged to cooperate with the incoming interim management committee for their mutual collective and individual interests.
