Gambia: Wallidan, Brikama Win Basketball League Opener

Brikama and Wallidan have won the opening league competitions held at the Manneh Sillah Basketball Lawn in Banjul on Saturday, 26 January 2013.

Brikama defeated Sport House by 37 points to 23 at the first game followed by GAF defeating Wallidan by 23 to 16 points.

The opening of the 2013 basketball league competition was witnessed by delegates of the sporting arena.

Speaking to reporters at the end of the games, the head coach of Brikama United, Lamin Touray, expressed delight over the victory.

"We are here for the victory, for which we have been training for a long time. We needed this game," he said, adding that they would be training much harder in preparation for their next game.

Touray also commended the organizing committee for their good job and Brikama Sports Committee for playing a vital role in decentralizing sport in Brikama, in which basketball is not an exception.

He said their sports committee is therefore making sure basketball is back to its feet.
