Sudan: Militia Leader's Brother Suspected to Plan Attack On Own Vehicle

Tur — The brother of a militia leader was arrested in suspicion of planning an attack on his own vehicle carrying 25 passengers, mostly traders, in Central Darfur on Monday. Three persons were killed during the raid and another three were wounded.

Eyewitnesses said the incursion happened at 10:00am around Tur, adding the victims were traveling from Nertiti to Nyala. The militants seized all of the passengers' belongings.

Residents claim the militia leader who carried out the looting, Yousef al-Saer, is well known in the area.

According to them, the Nertiti police arrested the vehicle owner, who happens to be al-Saer's brother, suspecting he may have planned the attack. He is currently in detention awaiting interrogation.

The three traders who were killed are Mohamed Rajab, Mohammed Nour, and Ahmed Taher, known as Kar. The three wounded victims are the brothers Omar Siddiq, and Musa Siddiq, and their friend Babiker Adam.

Sources affirm the militia remains stationed on the area, "looting, ambushing convoys at gunpoint and killing anyone who tries to resist".
