Somalia: Turkey Donates U.S.$1 Million to African Union Mission in Somalia

Turkish Minister of Development Cevdet Yilmaz on Sunday (January 27th) presented a check for $1 million from the Turkish government to the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM), Turkey's World Bulletin reported.

The donation to support AMISOM operations was presented to AU Commissioner for Peace and Security Ramtane Lamamra at the African Union Summit in Addis Ababa.

Turkey's support for AMISOM highlights its efforts to participate the restoration of peace and security in Somalia, the Turkish Ministry of Development said in a statement.

Turkey has previously contributed to humanitarian development projects in Somalia, including establishing a cultural centre, a construction yard, renovating the parliament building, and constructing water wells and an orphanage.
