Nigeria: Ex-Dept Speaker House of Reps Decries Over Bearing Influences of Governors

Former deputy speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Austin Opara has joined the class of eminent Nigerians decrying the dictatorial activities of 36 states' governors and especially the governors elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Elder statesman, Edwin Clark and former Minister of Education, Prof. Jubrin Aminu had recently condemned what they described as the over bearing influence of the governors, explaining that if left unchecked could undermine the country's nascent democratic journey.

In an interview with THISDAY, the former deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives between 2003 - 2007, said: "What is most worrisome is that almost all the time, the governors are in Abuja and not attending to issues of governance in their respective states".
