Gambia: Gamtel Wows Soldiers in Superb Comeback

Armed Forces let a first-half lead slipped off as Gamtel made a late dramatic comeback to smash in three goals.

It took striker Buba Sama exactly ten minutes to send Armed Forces on road to their first victory of the season after losing to Bakau in the Week One of the GFA domestic championship.

Muhammed Conteh cuts into the middle to slice in a shot that rattled on the crossbar, Gamtel's closest attempt for an equaliser. Ex-Brikama United's Bubacarr Sanyang standing between the sticks for the Kaki Boys was forced into daring saves to keep his side's noses in front as Gamtel went in to break a goal up.

Tapha Manneh effects hand few of changes with ex-Lamin United's Hamang Conteh climbing off the substitute bench for Nuha Barrow and Saihou Jallow in for Foday Trawally to bump up blunted Gamtel's attacks.

Towering left-back Dudou Suso had his short off the far post. The Telecommunications giants had to do without star player Assan Ceesay and with striker Ali Sowe traded to Italian Serie A outfit Chievo. But to think Gamtel are dwarfed by the duo's absence would be a costly premonition.

Sam Gibba getting the nod to start up in attack restored pride for Coach Tapha Manneh. Gibba outraced his markers beating off two advancing others to smack in the equaliser in the 62nd minute.

The huge forward carelessly had himself booked for entry in the pitch without the referee's approval after being attended to by medics for an apparent suspected injury under challenge from an Armed Forces defender. Gamtel began commanding domination as Hamang Conteh injected lifeline in the game.

The Soldiers were pushed to the back foot and Hamang made the advantage count when he spaced up to control well within the box before unleashing an unstoppable screamer past helpless goalkeeper Sanyang for a 2-1 scoreline with the clock ticking 71st.

Armed Forces threw in some fresh legs in a last-gasp attempt to even matters but midfielder Modou Sarr had Armed Forces hopes for a spirited comeback dashed wrapping the score with a simplest of tap-ins in a display of attacking prowess for a final 3-1 score. It was Gamtel's first win following an opening fixture defeat to Steve Biko.
