Two persons died while over twenty others were seriously injured when a ghastly road accident occurred on the ever-busy Enugu-Onitsha highway on Sunday.
The incident which occurred Sunday morning at Nkwo Ezeagu axis in the Ezeagu Local Government Area of Enugu State involved two buses with registration numbers LSD936XA and XA927ZLL, travelling in opposite directions.
The buses reportedly had a head-on collision.
Enugu State Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Ebere Amaraizu, who confirmed the incident, said the two drivers of the buses died on the spot while more than twenty others sustained several degrees of injuries, and were later rushed to hospitals by the police who arrived at the scene of the incident early.
He said some of the wounded persons were taken to Our Saviour Hospital, Ekochin Hospital and Our Refuge Hospital - all situated around the 9th Mile Corner, Ngwo, Enugu while others were rushed to the National Orthopaedic Hospital. He added that the corpses of the two drivers were deposited at Our Saviour Hospital, 9th Mile Corner and Oji River General Hospital mortuaries respectively.
