Addis Ababa — The strengthening of the economic co-operation between Angola and Malawi, mainly in the mining sector, dominated Monday the meeting between the Angolan Vice President, Manuel Vicente, and Malawi's President, Joyce Banda, held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

The meeting took place on the fringe of the 20th Summit of Heads of State and Government of the African Union (AU), which started last Sunday.

During the meeting, Joyce Banda commended the Angolan President, José Eduardo dos Santos, on the advances Angola has had in the past ten years, with highlight on the positive results of the programmes of fight against poverty.

She manifested her willingness to strengthen the relations with Angola, also with the intention to benefit from Angola's experience in the domain of rural development.

The Malawian Head of State said she also discussed with the Angolan Vice President a possible co-operation in the sectors of mining, oil and agriculture.

She said Malawi is a power in the mining activity, so it can exchange experiences with Angola in this field.

On his turn, the Angolan Vice President said the two countries need to identify areas for possible co-operation, admitting that there are various possibilities in the spirit of the south-south co-operation.

Still on the fringe of the AU meeting, in which Manuel Vicent represented President José Eduardo dos Santos, the Vice President held talks with the Head of State of Equatorial-Guinea, Teodoro Obiang Nguema, and the State minister of the United Arab Emirates, Reem al Hashimy.
