Nigeria: FG to Complete 10 IPPs in 2013

The Federal Government is to complete 10 Independent Power Projects (IPPs) this year to improve power supply.

Briefing State House correspondents after a meeting of the board of the Niger Independent Power Projects (NIPP) yesterday, Ekiti State Governor Kayode Fayemi said the IPPs when completed will boost power supply in the country.

According to him "we want to assure Nigerians that based on the work that has been done so far we are almost certain that all of the 10 projects across the country will be delivered this year. And those are the power plants I'm talking about that are being constructed across the country - Omotosho, Geregu, Alaoje, Olorunsogo, Sapele etc. All of them will be ready this year."

The board chaired by Vice President Namadi Sambo also approved the 2013 budget for the NIPP.

Minister of State Finance Yerima Ngama said: "The amount involved is N5.3 billion for the operations of the power holding company and not for the projects. This budget include mainly salaries and overheads."
