Zambia: Kachingwe's Mumba Presidency Appeal Rejected

THE Lusaka High Court has dismissed an application by expelled MMD national secretary Richard Kachingwe to challenge the presidency of Nevers Mumba on grounds that he had no powers to sue him in his own capacity.

High Court judge Jane Kabuka said in chambers yesterday that Major Kachingwe's action could not be sustained because there were divisions between him and National Executive Committee (NEC).

Mr Justice Kabuka observed that the NEC was in support of Dr Mumba'spresidency while the plaintiff was not.

Maj Kachingwe had submitted that Dr Mumba's election to the position of party president was null and void, insisting that he was not qualified for election to that position.
