Tataouine — The workers of the Canadian Oil Company "Winstar" evacuated Sunday the two oilfields in the sahara of the Tataouine governorate, Mr. Dhaou Akrout, Secretary-General of the company's staff basic union said.

The evacuation was decided during a meeting between the governor of Tataouine, the union and the labour inspection.

At the end of the meeting, the governor pledged "to carry on the payment of the workers' wages pending the settlement of the issues in suspense and meeting the claims submitted to the Canadian Company, notably the approval of the status, the organisation of the company's Tunisian branch".

In turn, the basic union Secretary-General voiced fear as regards a possible dismissal of the workers whose labour contracts expire in the coming months.
