Eritrea: Women in Agordat Sub-Zone Witnessing Improvement of Livelihood

Agordat — The NUEW branch in Agordat sub-zone indicated that needy breadwinner women there are witnessing improvement of livelihood following their rehabilitation in livestock and other ways. It made the statement at an assessment meeting during which such project was described effective.

Ms. Afiet Saleh, head of the branch office, explained that it has been furthering its endeavors as regards supporting needy women, encouraging exemplary female students and ensuring credit opportunities for members.

Moreover, she pointed out that the Union also conducted community sensitization campaigns with a view to doing away with harmful customary practices affecting women such as childhood marriage. Accordingly, the undertaking is due to continue this year at an extensive scope.

The participants of the meeting on their part expressed readiness to sustain their active role in the Union's activities.
