Luanda — The new banknote series released officially on Tuesday will start circulating on 18 February and 22 March, respectively, said Angola Reserve Bank (BNA).

This was confirmed by the governor of BNA, José de Lima Massano, when speaking at the launching ceremony.

He said that the denominations of 50, 100, 200, 500, 1000, 2000 and 5000 Kwanzas will be introduced into the market from March to June.

According to him, the new banknotes will be gradually introduced in the economy and will circulate simultaneously with the current ones until their full remove from the circuit.

The decision to issue a new series was approved on June 26, 2012 by the National Assembly and passed into law by a majority vote.
