Nigeria: EFCC Re-Arrests Freed Police Pension Accountant

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), has re- arrested John Yakubu Yusuf, the former accountant at the Police Pensions fund, who was freed after paying N750 thousand fine on a two-year conviction for misappropriating over N23 billion.

The spokesman of the EFCC, Wilson Uwujaren, who confirmed the re-arrest of Yakubu Yusuf, said the suspect is being detained by the commission and would be arraigned on fresh charges.

Wilson said the commission has prepared and filed a four-count charge bordering on false declaration of assets. He stated that the suspect will soon be arraigned in court.

Yusuf was earlier arraigned alongside six other civil servants charged with alleged misappropriation of N33 billion Police pension fund in an Abuja High Court.

Yusuf who was mentioned in count 18, 19 and 20, for allegedly misappropriating N23.3 billion, pleaded guilty to the charges which are contrary to section 309 of the Penal Code Law.

He is also to forfeit the sum of N325 million and thirty choice properties scattered in Abuja and Gombe, Gombe State.
