Nigeria: Mikel May Miss Elephants Clash

There were fears in Eagles camp Tuesday night that both John Mikel Obi and Fegor Ogude may miss Nigeria's quarter final clash with the Elephants of Cote d'Ivoire due to the two yellow cards recorded against them at this stage of the competition.

Although no body was able to confirm the rule Tuesday night, CAF Media Officer, Emmanuel Maradas insisted that the Technical committee of the football body will meet Wednesday to take decision on the matter.

"I know that players with one yellow cards are automatically waved as their teams move into the next stage but as for those with two yellow cards like Mikel, the Technical Committee will meet tomorrow (Wednesday) to take a decision on the matter," said the Chadian football administrator.

Speaking on the standard of the competition to date, Maradas said that it was poor compared with previous editions. He wondered why attackers were goal-shy at this edition.

"The standard so far is poor. I have not seen those spectacular forms that made the AFCON tick so far. Let's hope that things will improve from this quarter final level."
