Kenya Police Gets New Spokesman

Antony Munga has been appointed Director of Communications at the National Police Service, replacing Eric Kiraithe who moves to the Kenya Airports Authority to head security.

Munga will be deputised by Mary Wangui, in changes announced by the chairman of the National Police Service Commission Johnston Kavuludi.

Munga has been heading the Kenya Railways Police department as police chief.

Immediate former Deputy Police Spokesman Charles Owino has been appointed acting Director of Internal Affairs at police headquarters.

Kavuludi says they have also abolished five ranks in the police service and collapsed them under the Inspector General and his two deputies.

In the Administration Police service, six ranks have been abolished and replaced with Assistant Inspector General of Administration Police. Also abolished is the rank of senior sergeant major to be replaced with Inspector of Administration Police.

The new police structure has 12 ranks where county commanders and two deputies to be appointed.
