Kenya: Baringo Schools Reopen

Ten schools have been reopened after security was restored in Baringo. However, Marigat DC Saul Muyaywa yesterday said the government is still monitoring the situation in the county.

Pupils of two schools in Marigat have been relocated to neighbouring institutions temporarily. "Learning has now resumed in the school which had not reopened for the last three weeks and we will provide round the clock security for the institutions and other residents," said Muyaywa.

Knut and Kuppet had early this week protested over the failure by the government to reopen the schools closed following increased cattle rustling.

Some of the more than 10,000 people who had been displaced in the region have also began returning to their homes especially in Arabal village where GSU officers have been deployed.
