Zimbabwe: Five Months for Stealing Clothes

A Chitungwiza man, who connived with his girlfriend to steal clothes worth US$27 at a fashion shop in the town to boost the woman's capital for vending goods will spend the next five months in jail. Tawanda Dube (21) of St Mary's and his girlfriend Christabel Dzapasi (19) on Monday admitted to theft charges when they appeared before the town's magistrate, Ms Rumbidzai Mugwagwa.

The lovebirds were slapped with a two-month jail term for the offence.

Dzapasi, however, was spared a jail life after Ms Mugwagwa suspended the sentence on condition of good behaviour.

Dube will spend the next five months in jail after Ms Mugwagwa brought into effect a three-month term of imprisonment that was previously suspended on condition of good behaviour after he was convicted of a crime of a similar nature.
