Nigeria: Youths Stage Protest in Imo

Owerri — Commercial and social activities in Owerri, the Imo State Capital were temporarily brought to a halt yesterday by youths from the 27 local government areas of the state who were protesting what they described as distraction of the government by some people.

The protesters under the aegis of Conference of Imo Progressive youths (CIPY) blocked the major roads in the city such as Whetheral, Bank road and Port Harcourt road respectively, thereby preventing free flow of traffic.

Addressing journalists, leader of the group Barr.Kennedy Ibe, said they were protesting against what he described as the continued distraction of the present government by some highly placed Imo citizens.
