Namibia: Special Olympics Celebrate New Year At Rundu

About 35 Special Olympics Namibia (SON) athletes from Rundu, Shambyu and Sauyemwa recently came together at the Dr Romanus Kampungu Secondary School in Rundu to celebrate the new year in style.

SON Kavango hosted a New Year Party for athletes with the assistance of volunteers from Germany, with lots of fun and games for the athletes.

However, most of the activities on the day focused on education and involved a lot of thinking, communication and team exercises.

The party was initially supposed to take place last December, but had to be postponed to January this year. Special Olympics Namibia in conjunction with the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), which is the German Society for International Cooperation, provides a year-round sports programme for people with and without intellectual disabilities.

The Special Olympics Namibia head office is based in Katutura, Windhoek, at the Katutura Football for Hope Centre and runs a number of programmes all over Namibia.
