The vice president of the Serekunda Central Sports Committee has refuted claims by Balla Academy FC that the performance of the Committee was poor.
Mawdo Sallah, who was speaking to Observer Sports, said that as a big team in the area Balla Academy FC should have acted in a more professional manner. Balla Academy FC had alleged that the committee had failed to inform them about the postponement of the knockout final against Eagle Stars that was supposed to take place last Sunday.
Speaking to this reporter on Wednesday, coach of the team, Alpha Jallow, who was accompanied to the Daily Observer Offices by the president of the club and four other officials of the team, said that they were called to a meeting by the committee where they were informed of the dates for the finals of the Knockout and League Cups respectively.
His words: "Two weeks ago, the committee called us (the teams) to participate in the finals to a meeting. Just to add we are in the two finals that is the league and the FA cup. The committee then informed us that the final of the FA cup will take place on 27th of January while the league final will be played on the 3rd February. For the FA cup final which we were to play this past Sunday, we made our preparations and went to the field where we met a man called Ablie who is part of the committee who informed us that he heard that the final was postponed."
He pleaded with the football authorities to come to their aid and help them go further to deplore the performance of the committee noting that they have not done enough to improve sports in the zone. "We want the football authorities to come and help us. If it is to dissolve the committee it is most welcome. Just to give you an example teams will lend the committee balls in order for matches to be played. The committee is a one man show of Mawdo Sallah," he added.
But Mawdo Sallah denied knowing that the Knockout competition was scheduled on the aforementioned date.
His words: "The final was never scheduled for the date they claimed. As all technical matters within the committee are under my watch, I never called a meeting. We are meeting today [Wednesday] to finalise the dates for the finals. They [Balla Academy] are a big team in the zone and they need to be commended as they will play in both finals but they should have been more professional by writing to us (first)."
