Gambia: Careless Driver Gets Two-Year Jail Term

Magistrate Landing M. Sanneh of the Bundung Magistrates' Court on Monday, 28th January 2013, convicted and sentenced one Lamin Jawla on two counts of careless and unlicensed driving.

On count one, the convict was sentenced to a pay a fine of D1, 000 in default to serve one year jail term and on count two, he was sentenced to pay a fine of D1, 000, in default to serve another year's imprisonment.

The particulars of the offence on count one stated that on 17th November 2012 at Kotu in the Kanifing Municipality, the convict drove a motor vehicle with registration number BJL 6476 G without due care, thereby causing an accident.

On count two, the particulars of the offence stated that on the same date and place, the convict drove a motor vehicle with registration number BJL 6476 G, without a valid licence.

When the charge was read to the convict, he pleaded guilty on all the counts and wassentenced accordingly.
