South Africa: At Least 100 Injured in Train Collision West of Pretoria

Pretoria — Two Metrorail trains have collided Cordelfos and Saulsville line, west of Pretoria on Thursday morning, leaving at least 100 passengers injured.

According to media reports, the two trains were travelling on the main line towards Saulsville, when train number 9017 crashed into the stationary train number 9009, resulting in a rear end collision.

Both Metrorail and the Railway Safety Regulator (RSR) have dispatched officials to the site of the accident.

"The RSR has been informed that more than 100 people have been injured and the driver of train number 9017 is trapped in the motor coach, emergency personnel are at the scene," said the regulator in a statement.

An investigation is underway and the public is advised that the line between Cordelfos and Saulsville has been closed until further notice.
