Zambia: Kitwe Council Puts Plot Sales On Hold

KITWE City Council (KCC) will not lift the suspension on the sale of residential and commercial plots until an effective mechanism has been found to manage the exercise.

KCC suspended the exercise after commotion which left some people injured when more than 1,000 people gathered to buy plots with others spending the night at the civic centre.

KCC acting public relations manager Dorothy Sampa said in an interview yesterday that the council had not yet found a strategy to help it manage the sale of plots.

"We are still strategising and we have not gone anywhere with regard to coming up with a strategy to manage the programme," Ms Sampa said.

Town Clerk Bornwell Lwanga suspended the sale of plots and promised that the council would formulate a system to manage the exercise.
