Nigeria: NYSC, NGO Conduct Free HIV Test in Dakibiyu Community

The Dakibiyu Community in Jabi, FCT, on Thursday benefitted from the free HIV and AIDS testing and counselling of the NYSC Community Development Group in Abuja.

The NYSC HIV and AIDS Group in collaboration with AIDS Health Care Foundation, an NGO, conducted the test.

Mr Moses Ola, Counsellor with the NGO, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the community was chosen because it was densely populated with artisans.

Ola said that testing and counselling would be conducted, after which there would be follow up to administer drugs to those who were found to be HIV positive.

"The community is like a ghetto with different kinds of people; this outreach is to enlighten the people, then counsel and test them for HIV.

Ola said that anyone who tested positive would be referred to the NGO's treatment centre for medication.

He added that apart from the testing and counselling, the team would distribute condoms to the people in the community as part of enlightenment campaign on how to prevent infection.

Ola said there was a plan to replicate same in other community within the FCT.
