Nigeria: Physically Challeneged Persons Protest Non-Release of Fund

Warri — PHYSICALLY challenged persons in Delta State, Thursday, stormed the headquarters of Delta State Oil Producing Area Development Commission, DESOPADEC, in Warri, to protest the non-release of their N40 million 2012 budgetary allocation, by the state oil intervention agency.

Vice-Chairman of the group, Mr. John Young, told Vanguard, that they have explored all avenues to address their plight to no avail hence the protest.

He said they were prepared to remain at the commission until their demands are met.

However, the senior press officer of the commission, Mr. Vincent Oyibode, who spoke to Vanguard, alleged that the last N40m allocated to the group and meant for training/empowerment was misappropriated by the officers.

He said the delay in the disbursement of the fund was as a result of the dissolution of the former board and re-appointment of a new one last December, noting that the new board was working to meet their demand.
