Nigeria: Kwankwaso Swears in Siec, Varsity Governing Council

Kano — Kano State Governor Rabi'u Musa Kwankwaso yesterday inaugurated the governing council of the state University of Science and Technology in Wudil and also swore-in the leadership of the state Independent Electoral Commission (KANSIEC).

A statement by Kwankwaso's spokesman, Halilu Ibrahim Dantiye, said Barr. A. B. Mahmud was appointed the chairman of the varsity's council at the event which was witnessed by representatives from many interest groups including the National Universities Commission, (NUC).

Kwankwaso in his address expressed concerns over what he called the comatose state of the university, which he noted was established during his first administration.

He said the new council, "which is composed of eminent persons, was put in place to work with the management of the university".

Similarly, Kwankwaso inaugurated Dr. Sani Lawan as the chairman of KANSIEC, the body responsible for conducting local elections in the state, with Isma'ila Idris Garba, Umar Liman, Zainab Usman Bichi and Abdulqadir Inusa Butalawa as board members.
