Gambia: Pondingoto United Cry Foul

Pondinngoto United of New Yundum claim that the New Yundum Sports Committee (NYSC) is launching a witch-hunt against them.

The head coach of the side, Salifu Bah, who walked into the Daily Observer offices on Thursday morning said that the committee's unfair attitude towards them was manifested when a player in his team was sent off for complaining about the referee offside decision against his team.

"When we started the Nawettan, our second match we played the referee awarded an offside against us. One of my defenders whose name is Alhagi Bojang just asked the referee about the decision and he was shown a straight red card. After he was sent off, the committee then wrote to the team informing us that Alhagi Bojang is banned for three matches and fined D250.

Then in our third match against Central United, a goal we scored was disallowed as the ball passed the line. The linesman upon seeing that raised his flag but the referee didn't see him. I then protested that he should continue to raise his flag. I and my striker Bakary Jadama were both handed three match bans and a fine of D300," he said.

But responding to the claims made by Pondingoto United, the secretary general of the committee, Tapha Joof, refuted the allegations against them.
