press release

The MEC for Agriculture and Environmental Affairs, Dr Meshack Radebe addressed an Emerging Farmers Summit held at the Royal Show grounds in Pietermaritzburg where various farmers from the province of KwaZulu-Natal met to network. Approximately two thousand struggling farmers attended the gathering.

The department saw the need to create a platform for engagement with the farmers who had a chance to voice their concerns to the MEC and Head of Department (HOD). Among the issues discussed were land reform, finance, technical support and many other challenges which the farmers are faced with. Agricultural groups were well represented.

The MEC responded to all questions and concerns highlighted by the farmers. The department is determined to assist the farmers who have been emerging to reach their full potential.
