Senator Magnus Abe representing Rivers South-east senatorial district in the National Assembly has said he will continue to prioritise the welfare of the people in his legislative agenda.
He disclosed this while inspecting a water project he donated to traders at the Nchia market in Alode, Eleme Local Government Area of Rivers State.
Accompanied by some members of the state House of Assembly and council chairmen from the senatorial district, Abe, who used the forum to list some welfare packages so far initiated, said: "Apart from providing water, we've given scholarship and financial assistance to students in institutions of learning to lessen the financial burden on parents."
"This water project is an intervention; just a small intervention for the people around here, our constituency projects for this year are in University of Port Harcourt and Rivers State University of Science and Technology where we are building blocks to improve the quality of education. We have also attracted MDG projects to the District.
"We cannot deny that your votes have propelled us to a level where we see things more than you see and we get more than you do; so, whatever we are getting will be shared with the less privileged in keeping with our commitment, that our being in the senate will not benefit just us and our friends but the ordinary people in the senatorial district," he said.
Abe, who thanked the chairman of Eleme Local Government Area, Hon. Oji Ngofa, for drawing his attention to the need for water in the market, emphasised that, "there are little things we can do in our communities that don't cost so much money but would help a lot of people.
According to him, "if we have information on things like that we would be glad to assist our communities in whatever way that brings us closer to the people, so that's what we are doing here. I am grateful."
Responding, a traditional ruler in the area, Emere D.O.N. Awala, expressed gratitude to Abe for the water project and assured him of their support.
"I have to thank the Senator for putting this borehole here for us. Like as he has said it's not part of his constituency project but he thought it wise and proper to do that I'm very grateful to you; I know and believe that God will propel you to do more for us," he said.
