Kenya: Shock As Aspirants Not Listed

Holders of Orange Democratic movement, ODM, nomination certificates for civic and parliamentary slots were surprised yesterday when they realised their names were missing from the IEBC list.

The situation caused chaos in most of the IEBC offices where standoff ensued as both holders wanted to be cleared to contest waving certificates.

In Migori county, Nyatike constituency IEBC coordinator Moses Daula was forced to only clear candidates allied to other parties after those of ODM protested against the exercise saying there was plan to block them.

Efforts to download the list from the website failed even as those in support of the emailed list pressured him to clear them using the list sent to him via email.

He stood his ground and declines to clear the aspirants using the list emailed prompting chaos that forced him to call for more security personnel.

The returning officers postponed the exercise to Thursday from the scheduled Wednesday.

The same scenario was witnessed in Rangwe, Kasipul Kabondo, Suna east constituencies where civic aspirants had been given parallel party nomination certificates.

Meanwhile, security was beefed up as parliamentary aspirants presented their papers to IEBC for clearance with fears that there could be violence.
