Zambia: Kr418,609 Stolen From Chipata Stanbic

ABOUT KR418,609 (K418,609,900) was stolen from Stanbic Bank in Chipata when thieves broke into the financial institution on Thursday.

Eastern Province police commissioner Grace Chipalila confirmed yesterday that three bandits who broke into the bank through the roof went away with more than K400 million.

"After thorough investigations, we realised that K418,609,900 was stolen from Stanbic Bank Chipata Branch," Ms Chipalila said.

The thieves used a cutter to break the asbestos. The instrument was later found in the premises.

After entering the bank, they blew up one of the metal doors to the store room using explosives.

Police have since launched a search for the suspects while business operations at the bank have resumed.
