Egypt: 10 Automatically-Controlled Level Crossings to Open in Six Governorates

A number of ten automated railroad crossings are to open soon in six Egyptian governorates to avoid accidents and ensure safety of citizens, Transport Minister Hatem Abdel Latif said on Thursday 31/01/2013.

The minister added that the newly inaugurated railway crossings cost EGP 12 million in governorates of Giza, Beni Suef, Assiut, Sohag, Gharbeya and Kafr El Sheikh.

While opening a level crossing at Gharbiya governorate, Abdel Latif said that development works of manually-operated railroad crossings include setting up a well-equipped control room for watchman, paving the entrances and exits of the level crossings, establishing boom barriers and installing electronic crossing bells, flashing lights and surveillance cameras.
