Egypt: Presidency Urges Opposition to Withdraw Supporters At Presidential Palace

Egypt's presidency on Friday condemned the ongoing violence at Cairo's presidential palace and urged political powers to call on their supporters to leave the area surrounding the palace immediately.

"The presidency is monitoring the marches some political forces had called for. Some of the marches reached the presidential palace and unfortunately deviated from the peaceful course by throwing petrol bombs and fireworks and attempting to storm into the palace and climb over its walls," a statement for the presidency on its Facebook page said.

The statement called on all national powers to condemn these practices and urge their supporters to leave the vicinity of the palace.

The statement also held "political powers that may have contributed to inciting" such actions politically responsible for what is happening now.

The presidency stated that such violent actions "do not belong to the revolution's principles or to any legitimate political practices in peaceful expression of opinion".
