Nigeria: Gunmen Attack Police Station, Injure Cop

Bauchi — Gunmen have attacked the Dass Divisional Police Station in Dass local Government Area of Bauchi State injuring a corporal.

Police Public Relations Officer ASP Hassan Mohammed Auyo confirmed the incident.

He said police had repelled the attack on Dass Divisional Police station, but a policeman was injured during exchange of fire with the hoodlums.

"They did not destroy the police station.

"They did not sack the policemen and they did not steal our arms.

"Even the injured police man escaped with his riffle."

Auyo said, "Investigations in to the incident have commenced and soon we will get the suspects" reiterating the commitment of the police to secure lives and property.

A top security source in Bauchi said, "Police had intelligence report on the attack.

"The hoodlums were looking for arms but we thank God the policemen on duty were brave enough to chase them away.

"The injured policeman's name is Corporal Yohanna Joshua--he was shot in his leg."

He said it was not clear if there was casualty on the part of the hoodlums because they normally pick their injured when running.

Sunday Trust correspondent gathered that the hoodlums threw explosives at the station but were not able to destroy the station.

Only bullet holes were seen, the building remained intact.
