APR Volleyball Club have signed 3 U-20 players ahead of the new season, which is scheduled to kick off on February 20.
The trio include, left attacker Barrack Rugira from Groupe Scolaire St Joseph, Yves Mutabazi from Groupe Scolaire de Butare and midfielder Fabrice Nkezabahizi from Nyanza.
They join 2 other U-20 players at the league and Carre d'As Cup champions, including midfielder Fred Mutabazi and left attacker Aimable Mutuyimana. According to APR head coach Sammy Mulinge, the club have changed their policy by deciding to use only local players in the upcoming season in a bid to lift the standard of the national team.
"We need to field young Rwandan players in the league so that in the future they are able to compete at the highest level for both club and country," said the former Kenyan international player.
In the past, APR have been criticised for using foreign players, mainly Kenyans and Ugandans.
The young players will get support from the more experienced players like right attacker Athanase Bigirimana, Bosco Mutabazi and Alexis Ntakirutimana Debande.
