Uganda: Remain Focused, Namutumba Leaders Tell Kadaga

Political and religious leaders in Namutumba district have urged the speaker of Parliament ,Rebecca Kadaga, to stay focused on serving the nation.

The call, by Ivukula sub-county chairman Siraj Gusongoirye, commended Kadaga for standing strong against bad vices like homosexuality and corruption. Gusongoirye was speaking at a fundraising function for the construction of Ivukula Church of Uganda in Namutumba archdeaconry, where the speaker was chief guest.

Namutumba District Woman MP Florence Mutyabule weighed in, by commending Kadaga for her steadfast intervention when the district was affected by malnutrition in 2011.

"... I believe we are on the right track in exposing the crooks and fighting for the voters' interests," Mutyabule told the speaker.

Winding down the appeals, Archdeacon Rev John Bamugemereire asked the speaker not to relent in fighting corruption which has infiltrated every sector. For her part, Kadaga implored local leaders to mobilize their public towards improving their livelihood.

"It's true that there might be leadership challenges affecting service delivery like you have already mentioned corruption but as we fight it, we should also take a step of working tirelessly to improve our living standards," she advised.

The congregation raised Sh8 million, with the Speaker contributing Sh1 million.
